7 Ways to Make Your Smartphone Last

Dec 2, 2019

It’s no secret that smartphones are fragile. It’s the price we pay for owning miniature computers that are capable of pretty much anything. In this post, we’re giving you the tricks you need to keep your phone alive long enough to get your money’s worth.

1. Think Smart

If you read our last post about how to save money on your smartphone, then you’re familiar with our mission to shatter the expensive Smartphone Ownership Cycle. We’ve found no better way to do so than with fair, affordable smartphone insurance. We won’t pitch you the details here in our blog, but here’s a basic explanation of how a protection plan can boost your gadget’s lifespan and save you money.

2. Waterproof Your Device

We hate to break it to you, but rice does not eradicate water damage. Several studies – one including 9 phones – have found the rice trick to be completely useless. Whether your phone falls victim to a pool or a puddle, the damage of the costly accident is almost always irreparable. It’s better (and cheaper) to be safe than sorry! Take your phone to a smartphone repair shop that offers waterproofing services and deplete your risk of needing to shell out a couple hundred dollars for a new phone.

3. Quality Protection

Unfortunately, smartphones definitely lack the durability of your first brick-like Nokia. Invest in the longevity of your smartphone with a dependable, high-quality protective case. We’re not talking about the cheap thin plastic cases either; the bulkier the better.

4. Baby the Screen

The fragile screen of your device is always the first to go in the event of an accident, so make it your top priority when it comes to keeping your smartphone alive. Always keep a protective covering of tempered glass over your screen to prevent cracks, breaks, and shatters. If you do neglect to apply a protective layer, be sure to clean the screen regularly and see that any cracks are attended to as soon as possible before they spread.

5. Beware of Electrical Devices

Sudden surges of electricity between two devices could ultimately result in a malfunctioning touchscreen. Keep your smartphone away from anything that conducts or transmits electricity.[/fusion_text][fusion_text]

6. Don't Idle

Idling on one frame for extended periods of time can cause a burn-in on your screen, which is permanent damage. Make sure that your settings are adjusted to allow your device to lock on its own after a short amount of inactivity.

7. Stay Cool

Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight on a hot summer day will damage the LCD display of your smartphone. Keep your device in the shade and refrain from leaving it in extremely high temperatures, or it will overheat and suffer serious damage.[/fusion_text][fusion_separator style_type="none" hide_on_mobile="small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility" top_margin="25" bottom_margin="25" alignment="center" /][fusion_text]
