Video: iPad Mini vs Nexus 7 Drop Test

The new iPad Mini is now released and within only a few hours, there is a Drop Test for it now up on Youtube.

Square Trade made a drop test video comparison in which the Apple iPad Mini faces off against Google’s Nexus 7. Square Trade built a robot for testing, to ensure each test drop is the exact same height.

The first drop being a 4-foot corner drop. The result? The iPad Mini has some noticeable damage, but the screen stays intact. The Nexus 7 seems to have more damage, particularly a big crack on it’s edge. Next, the two tablets go through a prettty damaging 4 foot face down drop. The iPad Mini screen is heavily damaged, with the glass coming off. The Nexus 7 is damaged, but not as bad as the iPad Mini.

For the last test, they submerge the iPad Mini and The Nexus 7 underwater for 10 seconds. The iPad Mini survives and still functions after being pulled out of the water, recognizing and still reacting to touchscreen gestures. The Nexus 7, however, shuts off and restarts. The video doesn’t mention the end result and leaves us to wonder if the Nexus 7 ended up turning back on after all.

Square Trade concluded that the iPad Mini won the test, but not by too much. The result of this test is interesting and the take away would be this: If you are an iPad Mini owner, rest assured about water and the corner drop – but be very careful about letting that iPad drop face down. That’s where the most damage will occur. It is in your best interest to get an Apple warranty to protect the new iPad Mini, because we all know that accidental face down drops are sometimes inevitable.
