Managing and Increasing iCloud Backup Space

Sep 1, 2021

Both for phone and device repair needs and many other simple areas, the use of iCloud storage among Apple device users is very important. Not only do we recommend to our clients that their phone or other device be fully backed up before we begin any significant repairs or upgrades, there are numerous day-to-day reasons for maintaining quality iCloud usage, including basic data security and protection.

At Bad Apple, we offer a wide range of iPhone and iPad repair services, plus assistance with numerous areas like cloud storage and others to protect your data and keep your phone secure at all times. Whether you're bringing the phone in to us for a repair appointment or simply looking to ensure proper iCloud backups for any of a number of other purposes, here are the basic steps to follow to increase your iCloud storage space and manage your device ahead of a backup.

Check iCloud Storage Space

First and foremost, check how much cloud space is present on your Apple device. To do this, first tap the "Settings" icon on the home screen, then scroll down and tap "iCloud."

In this section, you will be able to see how much storage space is available in your iCloud account. If you're approaching the maximum capacity for your current plan or if you don't have enough total storage to back up all of your device, you'll have to take some additional steps.

Select Your Device

When you select your current device, you'll see the date of your last backup plus the ability to choose which items you want to backup.

In most cases, the "Documents & Data" option should be selected automatically. If not, tap that option and select "Back Up Now" from the resulting screen.

If this is your first time backing up your device or if it has been a while since you last backed up, this option may require a bit of time.

Increase Your iCloud Limit

If you need to increase your iCloud limit, simply tap "Manage Storage" under the iCloud section. You'll see your current storage plan plus the ability to upgrade that plan quickly and easily.

At present, upgrades are available in 5GB increments. The plan you choose should depend on the number of photos or multimedia files you wish to upload and whether or not you have more than one device using iCloud cloud storage.

With a little preparation ahead of time, maintaining a proper iCloud backup for your Apple device is simple and easy -- and will keep your data and important files protected in case of any kind of loss or disaster.
